Russ Steele

I have updated the weekly fuel prices graphics under the FUEL tab above. US and CA prices are going up while Nevada County prices are stable.

If you are in Europe, Ford is making a deisel powered Focus that gets 55 MPG. It’s not a hybrid or an electric but it meets the 2025 fuel economy standard

Note this paragraph on how its accomplished,

“The five-door compact is powered by a small turbocharged diesel engine of unspecified horsepower fitted with stop-start technology — so it doesn’t run when the car is sitting at a light – and has active grille shutters that reduce aerodynamic drag at highway speeds. Low rolling resistance tires, low friction oils and a number of other fuel saving features help push the Focus’ fuel economy past a projected 69 mpg on the European testing cycle, which generates figures typically 20 percent higher than EPA ratings.

Get ready to see much more of this type of technology on cars we buy here in the states in the next few years.

I would very much like to have a diesel powered small car. My GMC Diesel gets about 13-14 miles to the gallon, where as the gas version gets about 9-10 miles to the gallon. Diesel is much more efficient.

Russ, at the end of article it mentions that the Chevy Cruze will be available as a diesel in the US for the 2013 model and is expected to get over 50 MPG.
